Hello!
When I was in I believe 7th or 8th grade my English class read a dystopian YA novel. In the novel there is essentially a caste system divided by basically genetic superiority. At the top and I want to say in a protective city are these genetically “perfect” people who don’t experience illness, age incredibly slowly to the point they live into their 100s and because of their modified genetics are gorgeous. Then there’s the others who live in a world that is falling apart on many levels. Cities and structures deteriorating, acid rain, some groups are borderline inhumane and violent, I want to say they are even described as monkeys bc they have become so “primitive”. I want to say it’s narrated by one of the “normal” people who are essentially just forced to live in these conditions and is a younger/teenage boy and he and one of the genetically superior girls meet and go on essentially a hero’s journey.
I remember finding this book super fascinating but could not even begin to tell you the name or author of it. If anyone knows what I’m talking about please let me know what it is!!!
