Looking for supernatural thriller or horror where the protagonist has a secret that slowly comes out

So I’m thinking of books like Seed, or Stolen Tongues or even how to sell a haunted house, although that to a lesser extent.

Where someone is being haunted by something that had interacted with them in their past but they had forgotten or buried it, or it has been called on by something they did in their past.I would like to keep it as vague as possible because even the suggestion in answer to this request is a kind of spoiler I suppose, but just whatever pops to mind when you think of this.
