What I mean with this is books in the style of Dan Brown (not asking for exactly books that are similar, since those books arent exactly the best), where there is a mystery or an enigma that has elements of mysticism to them. But what I am asking for is books where those mysterious elements are in some sense real, not like in Dan Browns world where there is no actual magic or mystery to them.
Another author that writes books like this is Stephen King, but again, I am not asking for books like he writes since his books tend to be horror which is not what I am looking for. And his books tend to also not have a satisfying ending. For example, I liked the mystery in his book “the dome” but the whole ending was bad. I like to think about a solution or what the truth behind some bizzare phenomena is, but when the solution is less exciting than the mysterious phenomena itself, I feel let down.
Its a bit like a puzzle. Like if I give you a puzzle and tell you you need to figure a way to open it up. And then I egg you on for trying to figure it out and make it seem something great, something mysterious, how there might be something hidden inside. And then you give up and the solution is me taking a big ass hammer and smashing it to bits and inside is a piece of paper that says “its about the journe and not the destination. Also, screw you”. Well, I got a bit carried over here, sorry.
