I know there are some great love stories among the classics or in books where you wouldn’t expect it. A lot of the books I’ve read that are sold as being romance novels seem to follow a formula or tropes that don’t really appeal to me. I’d love to find a great romance in a genre or book that isn’t really sold to you as a romance novel. As much as I appreciate Jane Austen, *Little Women* etc, I’m looking for something a little more under rated or less obvious. As an example, while I would say *The GreatGatsby* isn’t a great love story as in one people would want to emulate, that’s an example of a book that has a romantic plotline that isn’t literally in the romance novel section.
Also, looking for something set in the real world, not relying on any world building like a fantasy or sci-fi novel would. I’m finishing up some denser books and need something less complicated. Also, I read tons of YA as a teen and am not eager to revisit the genre right now, but I’ll be open minded on that front anyway.
I’d prefer something written within the last thirty years, but I’ll be open minded in terms of when it was published as well. Thanks!
