Looking for ideas of books to read that will provide an escape from a particularly challenging time of life. I’ve been struggling with health issues, loss of a pet, moving to a new city and infertility. I love to read, but I feel myself being hesitant to start a book because I don’t have the emotional bandwidth to read anything that might be sad at all or remind me of the real life struggles.
I’m not even sure if there is such a book, since stories usually require some ups and downs. But if anyone has ideas I’d love to hear them.
I’m particularly looking for fiction, I’m not typically super interested in fantasy genre. I just want something to occupy my brain and feel safe and easy.
Thanks in advance.

The hundred year old man that climbed out of the window and dissapeared – Jonas Jonasson
The struggles don’t overlap yours. It’s mainly just a funny book where an old man goes on an adventure. >!If you have bombs as a trigger it might not be for you though (just technical no people are being blown up, the 100 year old man knows how to build them and doesn’t want to kill anyone. I could see it being triggering if you come from a war situation). !<
Not a major spoiler just making sure.

My ultimate comfort read is the secret garden – Frances Hodgson Burnett. But I can see some overlap with your personal problems.
I like childrens books in general. I always search in the 9-12 category. Children have very different problems so they don’t trigger things that often. Next to that the reads are usually more wholesome and warm.
Other children’s books I like:
The wonderful adventures of Nils – Selma Lagerlöf
Ronja the robbers daughter – Astrid Lindgren
The cat who came in off the roof – Annie M G Schmidt
Inkheart – Cornelia Funke
