Books where the protagonist is trying to cover up a murder/serious crime.

Hi friends,

I’ve had a lifelong recurring dream where I committed or was involved in a murder in the past and am stressing out as people are discovering more evidence and feeling the walls closing in. So lately I’ve been looking for some contemporary titles (or the last sixty years or so) where the protagonist is someone in that kind of dilemma. Crime and Punishment is a great example, but looking for something more current. I’ve tried googling around for this kind of plotline and it’s pretty frustrating. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
