I’m an introvert who despite having a lot going for me struggle with being a lone wolf to a fault, addiction/self destructive tendencies, and maybe a bit of depression. Upon first reading Untamed by Glennon Doyle it made me feel seen and helped me see a bit more of my potential.
I read it again and realized that as a book, it’s pretty empty and a little bit too self-helpy for me.
I’m looking for fiction that’s a bit more literary, but still touches on those themes of dealing with self-sabotage, finding your identity, or persevering through low points of depression and low self-esteem. Doesn’t have to be pure optimism, in fact, I think I’d prefer something as human as possible.
I love Sally Rooney because of how accurately she portray human nature, but I’m not looking for romance-driven stories.
Other books I’ve read and liked are “Alone With You in the Ether”, “Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine”, and “Gone Girl” (specifically the cool girl monologue),
