There is a book, I think written in 1600s. Quite popular, where are a couple of stories about christian priests etc. it is a satire.
One pf the stories was about a christian dealer who tried to make his jude friend to become a christian.
This friend told him that he will go to Rome and see everything by his own eyes. And if all is true he will convert.
Christian friend was disappointed and thought that in that case he will never become a christian.
But after the journey this jude indeed decided to convert. Because, as he said, if all that horrible sins are being done by the pope and cardinals and etc there must really be a christian god. Because in the other case all that would have collapsed long time ago.
