I’ve just begun reading Circe, by Madeline Miller. I don’t have a very robust background knowledge of Greek mythology. For those of you who have read this book, do you think it is necessary for me to already be familiar with the figures and their mythology, or can it be enjoyed without knowing this?

    TIA

    1. Can be enjoyed without a background knowledge. Miller’s interested in telling a certain story, not engaging in a back-and-forth with dead writers about their literary choices. She’ll explain anything that needs explaining.

    2. I dont have much background knowledge in Greek mythology and I still really enjoyed the book!

    3. My recommendation if you want to get into Greek mythology is to start with Edith Hamilton’s authoritative collection. You can read for yourself the background material.
