I have started reading fiction recently and it has grabbed my interest. I want to read more but it is not possible for me to afford much. I tried reading online and audiobooks but found they were not for me. I mostly buy second hand books. I like to retain the books for the memories and connection I built with them.I tried googling but most of the means are limited to US and not outside. It would be great to know if there are ways to get free physical books.

Library card is free
See if you can find a local book co-op, or reading community group in your area, or if you cannot get a library get, see if you can find a free public library that is not a state institution, but rather run by community members.
Not in the US isn’t all that helpful. Where do you live?
Not guaranteed at all, but check academic libraries, see if they have a weeding project in the fiction area, ask if you can just take a trunkload instead of however they are disposing them.
I work at a private college, one day about a year ago I saw someone filling a dumpster with books, got nosy, asked when they were weeding the art books and got a ton of (granted, used) large format art titles.
Try bookcrossing! Search for bookcrossing points in your area, you can also start one. There’s a forum thread on this topic: [https://www.bookcrossing.com/forum/5/476578/7563226](https://www.bookcrossing.com/forum/5/476578/7563226)
