I’m trying to find a book I read when I was younger but i don’t remember the title or much about the plot beyond that I really liked it.

The book was published sometime before 2002 and the main character is a young girl who has a skunk for a companion, she even has a special patch on her shoulder. It was fantasy and if I remember right it had Lord of the Rings or Terry Brooks vibes. I know it’s not much to go on but if anyone has any suggestions I’d be thrilled. It’s one of those books that I’ll know it when I find it but I just don’t remember enough to track it myself.
