I’m looking for history books centered in Britain during the 18th-19th centuries which focus on subjects such as canals, railways, telegraphy, cartography, ship making, geography, paleontology, fossil/shell collecting, photography and early industry.
For a better sense of what I’m looking for are books such as The Map That Changed the World: William Smith and the Birth of Modern Geology by Simon Winchester (the current book I’m reading now which sparked this interest) and The Fossil Hunter by Shelley Emling fit the bill.
