I know not everyone loves Catcher in the Rye, but I really like it. I read it as a HS senior and I still like it today. I love the meandering, first person narration from a character. I’m wondering if anyone knows of anything similar, but with a primary character who is in midlife, instead of late adolescence. Perhaps a silly request.

John Updike comes to mind. It has been years (30+) since I read his books, but I remember feeling it was like Catcher in the Rye but middle age.
