I’m a fan of well-written travel writing. Something about immersing into the details of someone else’s travel can be not only fun, but almost escapist. But I’m curious: has reading a travel-related work ever motivated you to travel somewhere? I did, to a degree. I’ve been a fan of Paul Theroux’s train-related works for years — some of which I read for hours longer in one sitting than I’d planned. While I didn’t travel the world on a train, it did motivate me to take a multi-day train trip once across a few countries of Europe. Reading the book gave me a new perspective on travel. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

No, but it has done the opposite and convinced me not to go some places.
