The Years of Rice and Salt by Kim Stanley Robinson

*Civilizations* by Laurent Binet is a uchronia where the Spanish conquistadores all die of syphilis back home after contaminating all Europe, and the Aztecs end up landing in Spain and colonise an almost empty Europe. Basing their new civilisation on the science of the early Renaissance, technical progress starts but with no wheel, which is then a sacred symbol of the divine.
