I don’t mean low stakes or “cozy fantasy” or the like, I’m just trying to avoid the books in which the fandom almost seems to take pride in how much note-taking or lore analysis is required to follow the plot.
I’m sure those are great books and ultimately worth it and whatnot, but not what i’m looking for right now! I’m hoping to not have to actively “work” to get absorbed in the story.
Some examples that I’ve recently enjoyed are stormlight, kingkiller, greenbone saga, and red rising. Open to both fantasy and sci-fi.
