I just finished reading “Come and Get It” by Kiley Reid. While I do have lots of ~thoughts~ on the book itself, I absolutely LOVED that it took place in a dorm at the University of Arkansas. I’m big into campus novels, probably because I peaked in college. However, I’ve noticed that many books in this genre take place at either an Ivy, a liberal arts type of college, or a fictional state university with a stupid fictional name. I myself went to a big public college in CA, and I find that those settings are greatly underrepresented in campus fiction.
Does anyone have any recommendations for “state school lit fic,” AKA character driven novels that are set at large public schools? I’m open to any suggestions, but I’m especially interested in reading from female/NB authors from diverse backgrounds.
Also, reading “Come and Get It” has sort of inspired me to write my own state school lit fic. Is that something you all would read?
