I read primarily fiction and am a huge fan of Sci-Fi and Fantasy specifically. Lately, I have been wanting to branch out, but I find a lot of straight fiction serious and harder to hold my attention. I read a lot of Rom-Coms as well because they are funny and lighter in tone, but Rom-Coms are usually short and sometimes lean a bit heavy on the smut side. I have tried mystery and historical fiction, but while I might find a character funny and lovable in those genres, other than Agatha Christie, I tend to find the quality fairly low. I think what I’m looking for is “Slice of Life”. I want something less dramatized, but still substantial. I like funny books, but it does not have to be funny. John Scalzi, Madeline Miller, Travis Baldree, Rainbow Rowell, Micheal Crichton, and Douglas Adams are are some of my favorite authors recently. I know this post is long and specific, thank you in advance for any help y’all can provide!
TLDR: looking for standard fiction that is not dark in tone, preferably funny, preferably not short.
