I’m not a big book reader. I think I read a book once every 5 years? I just struggle a lot with getting immersed. BUT when I have found books I like, I’m done reading them within 1-3 days.
It recently occurred to me that my favourite books have a bizarre writing style, for a few reasons, but I think the biggest is that bizarre writing styles don’t allow me to lose focus.
I just finished House of Leaves and really enjoyed it, I absolutely love the non linear nature of the writing, how I can reread it and interpret it differently. I also really enjoyed that the story was Twilight-Zone-like. Not big into “gore” or “misery porn” scary.
The last book I enjoyed was American Psycho. Sometimes a sentence wouldnt even end, but the next page would be a new chapter. It was gorey a couple times, what kept me hooked was how the majority of the story was surreal and slowly pulled back the curtain of the main characters mental health.
Any book you recommend that are similar? A bonus for books with ergodic writing.
