Recently, while back home for the holidays I was looking through my late mothers book collection (at least a few shelves full). While rummaging I came across a copy of “Of Love & Other Demons” by Márquez, interested I slipped it into my bag and brought it back to University with me. The copy itself doesn’t have a blurb and so I took it with my only knowledge about the book being my personal love for Márquez’s other work (particularly “One Hundred Years of Solitude”).
I’m about to finish Mishima’s “Spring Snow” and so was looking for what to start next when I remembered that I brought “Of Love & Other Demons” with me. Since it didn’t have a blurb I had a quick check on Goodreads only to discover it involved a “love story” between a 12 year old and a 30 something year old. Safe to say this freaked me out a little.
I’ve loved Marquez’s other work and just wanted to hear what people had to say, mainly:
– Is it still worth reading?
– Is the nature of this “relationship” handled well?
No spoilers please!
