I just went book shopping and now I want to go again, but I’m starting to feel like it’s indulgence. Is there any justification? Can someone tell me something that will make me feel okay for wanting to go back to the bookstore? When is enough enough?

I’m curious what your reasoning might be so I can selfishly apply that to today because I have a whole free day to myself and just got paid. I want to enjoy it without guilt so I’m looking for a little validation.

    1. Lie to myself that i will read them you have to learn to disregard the cold hard truths. Also tell myself i could be buying drugs instead is a book really that bad.

    2. I read somewhere (maybe this subreddit?) a comparison between your unread books and a cava of (undrunk) wine. You can keep buying wines, even if you have some at home. And sometimes after a while of having had a certain wine, suddenly you feel that today’s the day to drink that bottle. And you enjoy it. Without guilt.

    3. If you can afford it, why not? It’s your money, and you deserve to enjoy it however you wish.

That being said, my TBR is never outrageous like some people make theirs out to be. I go through books fairly quickly and am an avid reader in general, but even if my pile was stacked to the ceiling, like I said, it’s my money and my purchase to enjoy. You shouldn’t feel guilty about buying something you like.

    4. Book collecting and book reading are different hobbies ultimately. You need to evaluate them separately. If buying books is becoming a problem in terms money, time, space, compulsion etc. then you need to reign it in. Otherwise go wild, if you read the books doesn’t really matter.
