Character being forced to give up love of their life for very important goal/destiny

Any genre. Character goes through lots of mental gymnastics while trying to sit on both chairs. Having hard time leaving their life companion but at the end of a day choosing their destiny/save the world/whatever maybe because of some outside influence. Or maybe their ‘goal’ turns out to be phony before choice is made and they live laugh love
