My general goal in life is to not be so attached to my phone, browsing and scrolling so mindlessly. I took on reading to sort of remedy my phone usage. I realize that I’m in constant need of getting information and reading has been really great and stimulating. I’ve been reading a lot of science fiction and fantasy novels; Ninth House, Silo (Going to start the 3rd soon), The Secret Garden. As much as I’ve enjoyed reading these novels, I feel like I want to try something different.
I tried reading essays by michel de montaigne and a supposed classic Adventures of Tom Sawyer and I feel like they’re so old it’s hard to understand and enjoy them.
Do y’all have recommendations on contemporary Essays or Short Novels that is critical about modernity and life?
Is there a section at my local library that I can browse?
I don’t know what to do. I don’t want to just keep reading fantasies and fictions. How is that really any different from binge watching an entire series on Netflix.
