I am an avid reader. I am now 52+ y.o. I decided over 20 years ago, I was no longer holding to my “If I start a book, I’m going to finish it” mentality! There are soooo many books written & published every year!
My main love is a unique fantasy. New worlds, our world w/a twist, new currency, foods, morals, etc.
Steampunk too (!)
Pern by the Great Anne McCaffrey
Immediately springs to mind even though I haven’t read since yr 2001
Robert Aspirin MYTH series & His space series
Terry Pratchett
Robin Hobb
Jim Butcher
Patricia McKillip
Gaiman (sp?)
Etc
The Thirteenth Tale
The Ill Maid Mute
————-
I like fiction that puts a historical event or time and retells history.
Ex.
Hotel on the Corner of Bitter & Sweet
The Lake Palace by Ann Bennett
A River Runs Through It (Notman McClellan so?. Lived in NW Montana. He came to our school and he talked about his writing and took a million questions.RIP)
Ivan Doig 💞
……………
I like autobiographies of non-famous people. People’s lives from everyday living, what they achieved, etc.
Ex.
Angela’s Ashes
Sources of the River.
Actually written about David Thompson who was a Lewis & Clark contemporary explorer. L& C got lauded, signs and such all over MT of where they travelled, named bodies of water etc. I never learned about Thompson until I was an adult! Travelled right through and around NW MT, ID & Wa…. Highly recommend if you also enjoy History written by someone who lived after them.
…..
I could list more and more but hopefully, you get my gist w/I have to read my LOG of favs. 😉
Thanks in advance! 👋
Could you give a small blurb, or why you recommend a book or 10? Lol. 📚
Little to no spoilers, please! 🙃
💝
…………….Happy Reading, sniffing books, loving your readers, sitting @ your local book seller’s and hopefully sipping a cup of tea, or reading while waiting to pick up your kiddos from school, whatever you do to read! I cuddle up w/2 Boston Terriers, tea, and snuggle read🦽🛌

– Ben S. Dobson “The Flaw in All Magic”
– Robert Aspirin’s Phules Company books. I assume the space ones you mentioned where the Time series, but you didn’t mention Phule’s Company
– Jasper Fforde’s books have great worlds that are either a twist on ours (the Thursday Next books) or a completely new everything (Shades of Grey). They have a lot of really clever world play and references like you get in the MYTH series
Christopher Golden’s Myth Hunters (The Veil series): think of every creature from folklore you’ve ever heard of (and some you’ve not), with Jack Frost at the helm and an evil Sandman as a villain, and it’s a wild ride. One of my favourite series.
Deborah Harkness’ A Discovery of Witches (The All Souls trilogy): a little historical fiction, some witches, a few vampires, a little romance, it’s got something for almost everyone.
Douglas Adams’ The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy: If you can come to love a Pervect and a Klahd, not to mention Rincewind, you’ll love a zarkin frood like Ford Prefect. The books are a nice mix of humour and fantasy.
Hitchhiker’s is in my TBR pile 🙂
