not a guide on how to play them, just the instruments. i want books about their histories, uses, constructions, sounds, etc. also, not just instruments created in europe and north america! i’m interested in all instruments from around the world and ancient ones as well.

examples that i’ve already gathered (from wikipedia’s ‘further reading section’):

*music: features strings, woodwind and brass, percussion and keyboards* by max wade matthews and wendy thompson

*the look of music: rare musical instruments, 1500-1900* by phillip t young

    thanks 🙂

I give serious consideration to have along the way David Byrne’s HOW MUSIC WORKS, just because he covers so much of the subject.

Insightful, conversational, and never once talks down to us. A+
