Hey, lately I’ve been really enjoying coming of age novels with the main character going through a rough patch and doing I guess mischief (hard to think of the right word). I really enjoyed Goldfinch by Donna Tart (particularly the Vegas part), Boy Swallows Universe by Trent Dalton, and The Talented Mr. Ripley by Patricia Highsmith. Books like Huck Finn would also fit the same category. Any book recommendations for coming of age/bildungsroman type novels that involve that kind of gritty mischief?

The outsiders
Judy Blume’s work – “Are You There, God? It’s Me, Margaret.” is the title that immediately came to mind.
All the Pretty Horses
Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver! It’s an adaptation of David Copperfield set in Appalachia during the onset of the opioid crisis. It’s gritty and also a lotta fun; the kind of fun where you’re laughing out loud and suddenly feel a smack of sadness hit you in the face. But Demon does not let you pity him. I loved every page of it.
