I read I’m glad my mom died and [SPOILERS and TW ABUSE ] honestly I didn’t expect to relate to it as much as I did, from the whole “my mom is my best friend and it’s my job to make her happy”, being able to read her and anticipate her every emotion from a young age and feeling the responsibility of adjusting your behavior to her needs. Loving your mom and sorta being HER mom. To the growing up part and your mom constantly telling you how much she wishes you never grow up, all the fucking time. Trying to be your own person and she clings to you constantly, calling you a slut and a whore for just being a person, especially the part where her mom told her she got cancer bc of her, I’ve been through a VERY similar situation and I couldn’t put the book down. It was amazing. I want more of those stories.
Idm if it’s functional, non-fictional, memoir or autobiography. Don’t have a preference. Just not trauma porn for the sake of shock value I want it to feel real in substance.
