For me, the most recent and extreme example I can think of was when I listened “The Stand” by Stephen King.

I read so much praise online and decided to give it a try. I listened to the Complete and Uncut edition so it was about 48 hours long. I was intrigued during the first half of the book. Sure it dragged a bit at times, but it gave me the sense that it was all leading up to something incredible; an epic last “stand” one might say. I could not have been more wrong.

I have never been more disappointed in a book ending. It was made worse by the fact that so much time and effort had gone into building up the main characters, only for their efforts to not matter in the end. So much incredible world building and character development was trivialized by a lackluster ending. If I could get those hours of listening back, I would probably use it to listen to the entire kids bop discography or something more worth my time.

Anyways, that’s my rant. What’s a book(or series) that ya’ll felt was a waste of time after finishing?

    1. I felt similarly about the ending, but I enjoyed the ride so much that it was definitely still a good read for me.

Most Stephen King books will probably not be enjoyable for you.

    2. I think this is why I usually choose not to answer these sorts of questions. The stand is in my top 25 books – so one man’s waste of time is another man’s favorite, I guess.

That being said, Cows was about 8 hours of my life that I’d like to have back:)

    3. Murder bot diaries, everybody raves about that series, saying how funny it is etc.

So I was excited to read it, I got the series. Read the first book and I was pretty disappointed very bland and unfunny. I started the second book and gave up before chapter 3. It was just more of the same, dull and meandering story.

Does it hurt by hd Carlton I loved the book in the beginning but then it took a turn and I hated it idk I felt like she got bored midway and didn’t know what else to write

    5. Eric Flint – The demons of Paris

I suppose one turkey after so many excellent books that I’ve loved is a fair success rate.

Probably an unpopular opinion, but *The House In the Cerulean Sea*. It was so hyped up and at the end I was just like…that’s it? That’s what everyone was raving about? What did I miss? And I like slice of life stories, so it wasn’t even that I wanted more action, I just felt so underwhelmed by it.
