I’m trying to stop relying on television to help me get to sleep at night. Right now, I can only get to sleep if I have on an episode of some lighthearted show i.e. The Office, Friends, Seinfeld that I’ve seen a million times.
Looking for the book equivalent – something very lighthearted, not an intense plot, probably comedy… I’m probably going to start with the books I read to get to sleep as a kid (Little House on the Prairie).

I use young adult books for that purpose.
It’s not too intense but still interesting
Try the Pretty little liars series
Mine is A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson
A Gentleman in Moscow is a long book with a narrator that has a soothing voice. The book is very slice of life. The plot is not intense, but is also not boring. Not a comedy.
I like romcom type books for this! Short and easy to read.
Iron Druid Chronicles by Kevin Hearne, the Bobiverse by Dennis E Taylor, and A Long Way to a Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers.
David Wolf series by Jeff Carson
The Rex Stout Nero Wolfe mysteries. I’ve read them all multiple times, and they’re old friends. To,paraphrase Wodehouse, I know how it’s going to come out and it’s doesn’t matter at all. The writing is that good. It’s like sitting around and hearing a friend who’s good at it tell a story. Even if you’ve heard it before, it’s nice to share it again.
Anything by Terry Pratchett
Narnia is one of my fav comfort listens! The audio books are v nice
P.G. Wodehouse makes me laugh all the time, you always know that however convoluted the stories get, everyone will live happily ever after and end up where they are supposed to be. They are well crafted, remind me of little ornate puzzle boxes where you have to slide and cross the pieces into place. Jeeves and Wooster for the win.
Neil Gaiman
Anne of Green Gables was awesome for this.
The Murderbot Diaries is actually great for that. Something about the cadence and voice.
I sleep to audiobooks all the time. I love Jane Austen, Little Women, and Anne of Green Gables.
I also like to listen to history books about people I kind of already know a lot about. Cokie Roberts wrote a couple of books about the founding mothers of America that are soothing and interesting.
