As an adult and frequent reader, when I find myself thinking about my absolute favorite five star reads that I would reach for to re-read, they’re still books I read as a kid or young adult. Harry Potter (of course), Inkheart, the Gemma Doyle series, books of Bayern, etc. Nothing I’ve read in the past ten or fifteen years has given me that same completely satisfied, enraptured, mind blown feeling.
As an adult, I read a lot of contemporary and thrillers, all things that I enjoy reading but nothing I’d really go back to. The closest one I consider a five star was The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo but I still probably wouldn’t feel the need to re-read it. White Oleander, however, is an adult favorite.
