So, I’m from Europe, and most of the media I like is either European or American, in some cases Asian. I only recently realised how little I know about African cultures and started looking more into music and film from various countries there, but I’ve yet to tackle literature.

I’m interested in everything — classics, nonfiction, contemporary authors, poetry, etc. I’m also open to any country of origin, especially if you’re African and have some personal favourites from your culture that you’d like to recommend 🙂

The Lion King is good. The original African parable, the one that Disney bought the rights to, not the Disney version itself. I read it in my lit textbook in undergrad but I’m sure a standalone version exists somewhere on the Internet.

Also “Things Fall Apart” by Chinua Achebe is one of my favorite books of all time.

    2. Start with Chinua Achebe, Adiche (I never get her first name right, but she is a contemporary Nigerian author), Cry The Beloved Country, Nervous Conditions, frantz fanon
