I have an incredibly dear friend I’d love to get a signed book (Cloud Atlas – David Mitchell) for. It’s a book we both enjoy, bond over, and one that I see has affected her life positively and deeply. I could see it meaning a massive amount to them, especially with a little note or anything from the author. I of course don’t expect anything crazy and respect the author on the basis of their incredible art, but I just think it’d be a wonderful gift.

Shall I try to make an event which they’re attending to see if they’re willing to sign it? Of course this’d be an official thing and I wouldn’t just jump out at them during any old event. Or is it really viable to send a letter/ email?

But that more so brings me to a general question. For those of you who have been fortunate enough to get a signed book before, how did you go about it? And where the author’s generally happy to oblige?
