Just finished reading The Indifferent Stars Above by Daniel James Brown, an incredible account of the doomed Donner Party of overland emigrants in 1846/47.
Any recommendations for similar nonfiction books about doomed or otherwise extremely challenging expeditions? Can be from any time period or place on earth.
I’ve also enjoyed Candace Millard’s River of Doubt, about Candido Rondon’s (and Teddy Roosevelt’s!) near-disastrous sojourn in Brazilian Amazonia.
Would love to read something from Siberia, Central Asia, Africa, the Aussie Outback, or the Alps, in particular.
