This is for my romance/YA fantasy-adjacent (lol) fans. When I think back on my relationship with YA/New adult books all the way back to my middle school years (I’m 26 now), I see a few huge trends have taken over the YA/NA age groups over the years. As I perceive it, there were the paranormal fantasy books of the late 2000s/early 2010s (biggest example is Twilight), the dystopian books of the early 2010s (Hunger Games, Divergent, The Maze Runner, etc), and now, books about Fae and/or “romantasy” (A Court of Thorns and Roses, etc).
My question is: What do you all think the next big thing (genre influences, motifs, themes) in YA/New adult genres will be after the Fae craze has subsided? What do you want to see?
