Motivational/self help for depression, loneliness, negative thoughts. Etc?
Been depressed for a couple of weeks and I also struggle with anxiety. I wants recs educate me and also make me feel “better” about how I’m feeling. Any books with tips and advice is helpful.
Thanks.
For anxiety, “Things Might Go Terribly, Horribly Wrong: A Guide to Life Liberated from Anxiety.” It takes what I think is a very realistic approach, which is that no one can fully eliminate anxiety (and in some situations it is even useful and necessary! we evolved with it for a reason). However, you can learn to live alongside it, make it feel less bad, and not let it get in the way of you living your life.
I don’t have a specific recommendation for depression, but check out the books from New Harbinger. They’re a publisher who specializes in this area and tend to publish well-vetted works from psychologists and therapists. A lot of them are very practical (and educational) and describe the mental processes that go into depression, along with step by step instructions on what to try.
By the way, you can look up excerpts of most of those books on google books to see if you vibe with their approach. I found that super helpful myself!
