Hello! I’m interested in something nonfiction, focusing on the history of the Church from a secular/cultural/political perspective. Similarly open to histories of religions in general, even outside the church. TIA
A History of God by Karen Armstrong is a nice overview of the history of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Have to warn you it’s dense, dry reading, though. Â

Maybe, The Bad Popes by E. R. Chamberlain, or, Mistress of the Vatican by Eleanor Herman? Both are very interesting!

There’s Michelangelo and the Pope’s Ceiling by Ross King. It goes into the politics of the Church in addition to Michelangelo and the Sistine Chapel.
