Hi! At the beginning of this year it became very evident to me that I have mostly read books by US and UK writers. Looking to diversify I divided the world in 6 regions that I intend to read in different quarters of this year and next.

    The regions are like this:
Middle East, Africa, South and South East Asia, East Asia, latin america and finally some countries in Europe, specifically the Baltic countries and the nordic countries.

I am looking for recommendations to broaden my horizons, my preferred genres are literary fiction, philosophical fiction, history, culture, philosophy, and politics, but I also really open to anything.

    Thank you!

    1. For Norwegian literature I recently read Will and Testament by Vigdis Hjorth which was really good if not very intense (story about abuse within a family and its consequences). You may also want to try a classic in Hunger by Knut Hamsen (reads very modern for a book written in the 1800s). Another is Septology by Jon Fosse which I haven’t read yet but people like and may be up your alley.

For Latin American authors I’d suggest the classics of Gabriel Garcia Marquez, particularly 100 Years of Solitude. He’s Colombian and it reflects a lot on Colombian history. I also love Roberto Bolaño, he’s Chilean but lived in Mexico and Barcelona. Savage Detectives and 2666 both deal extensively with Mexico and are fantastic

    2. Tan Twan Eng – *The Gift of Rain* (Malaysia)

Georgi Gospodinov – *Time Shelter* (Bulgaria)
