I’ve been really into reading books that look at history and culture through different lenses, for example:
A History of the World in 6 Glasses by Tom Standage
The Fabric of Civilization by Virginia Postrel
Ghostland: An American History in Haunted Places by Colin Dickey
I also have on my list Drive-Thru Dreams: A Journey Through the Heart of America’s Fast-Food Kingdom by Adam Chandler
Each of these books goes through either a specific time period or a large swath of history by looking at a specific component of human culture (drinks, fabric, hauntings/ghost stories, fast food) and walks through the evolution of technology, trade, fashion, civilization, government, cuisine, etc. and how it affected the culture and society around it.
I’d love suggestions of books that do this to learn about different topics I may not have explored before!
Thanks in advance!
