    Hi,

Not from the US where it seems to be required high school reading.

Would like to cover off a decent sample of EAP’s work. Normally it would be fairly obvious what to read for an author I haven’t dipped into before. But it seems there’s a selection of short (and some very short) stories that I’ve heard of that wouldn’t take long to read at all, a novel that doesn’t seem to get much attention, some unfinished works, and some large multivolume compilations.

Where to start to get decent coverage? Just pick some of the ‘top’ short stories?

    1. Off the top of my head, classics include his “big hit” stories — like “The Telltale Heart,” “The Cask of Amontillado” and so on — and an assortment of poems — like “The Raven,” “Annabel Lee,” and “The Bells” (I’ll never forget the teacher who went on about the wonder of the onomatopoeiac word “the tintinabulation of the bells, bells, bells”). There are _plenty_ to dig into beyond that, but those are the greatest hits I never forget.
