I’m looking for a book that is good for someone with a relatively short attention span, and well written. I like reading epic fantasy series, but these days I feel less patient with slow books or dense books with steep learning curves that you need to stay with. I want to read writing that is effective and gripping. Something that will hook me. So, which book quickly hooked you?
As I said, I like fantasy, but I’m also into sci-fi, horror, and action. I really like books that lean into adventure. Honestly, I’m open to any fiction genre except romance, and I’m recently not in the mood for lit-fic. Thankssssssss

Have you read Holes by Louis Sachar? It has really short chapters and is super engaging from the get go!
Project Hail Mary, and Circe were both hooks for me.
Middlegame by Seanan McGuire. It’s not a short book, but it pulled me along compellingly, and has really stayed with me, too. Just a perfectly built wooden puzzle box of a book. Urban fantasy, I guess? The author certainly writes some other stuff that is more what I think of in urban fantasy, and this is set in the world more-or-less as it is, just add a secret cabal of alchemists and see what they hath wrought.
City of Stairs – Robert Jackson Bennett
