So, I really love post-apocalyptic novels, set after ‘the fall,’ like The Road and The Girl with All the Gifts, but what I’m hoping to find is one that is set *during* the fall. Something that describes the breakdown of the world as it ends.
One movie that does this well, though it’s not technically apocalyptic, is Contagion. Any one know of any novels like this? Station 11 was great, and it went part way toward what I’m seeking, but I think I want even more of what would happen, step-by-step as humans lose the fight, and everything collapses.
Thank you so much!

The Undead: The First Seven Days by R.R Haywood.
I haven’t actually read it yet but it’s on my list. Lots of good reviews.

The Stand is more after the collapse but you still get a good glimpse of the decline. I’m reading Swam Song at this exact moment by Robert McCammon and its ok. Nuclear War type with supernatural elements.
