A merged and simplified list of our most frequently and most recently read handful of authors:
– Hers: Kurt Vonnegut, Gillian Flynn, J.K. Rowling, C.S. Lewis
– His: Fyodor Dostoevsky, N.K. Jemisin, Stephen King, Shakespeare, Michael Crichton, John Irving, Don DiLillo, George Saunders, James Baldwin, Malcolm Gladwell, Ross Gay, Chen Chen, Emily Dickenson, Sylvia Plath
She is uncertain of her reader identity, but seems to prefer realistic fiction and select popular YA. He reads widely and more frequently than her, more than the above proportion of author names suggest, for both academic reasons and pleasure.
Also, this is our first time trying something like this, but we’ve been together for 15+ years, so we aren’t worried about possible disagreements in our book discussions. It is more about elevating our conversation. We’re looking for something new and surprising, perhaps inspiring or thought provoking. Open to classics and contemporaries, and we are both willing to venture outside our comfort zones.
