Hello! I’ve recently read and loved Yellowface, tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow, babel , prophet song, conn igguldon books about genghis Kahn. I’m looking a gripping next audiobook/ book without much love in as going through a break up. Finding I get scared to start new books without knowing if there’s a strong ‘love’ element which will make me sad. I love historical fiction, political dramas, most things really except love stories! What suggestions do you have?

*All the Light We Cannot See* by Anthony Doerr is a historical fiction about the German occupation of France during WWII. There’s no romance and it’s a beautifullly written book (also a Pulitzer winner).
I would also recommend *Piranesi* by Susanna Clarke. It’s got the same quietly-malevolent-dark-academia vibe as *Babel*, but it is more fantastical and doesn’t have a historical element. It also has no romance.
The Vulnerables by Sigrid Nunez — an unlikely pair of characters and a bird during the pandemic but very well written
The Vaster Wilds by Lauren Groff —historical fiction that follows a girl escaping an early colonial settlement and her adventure
A Burning by Megha Majumdar— the intertwined stories of people living in the political reality of contemporary India and what happens after a politically charged “incident”
