Hello lovely Redditors,
I am writing a book and am looking for books to read that explore similar themes, both to help my writing and to use as comparison titles once I eventually finish the manuscript.
The story follows a drunkard heir to a kingdom who prefers to slum it undercover with the common folk, rather than embrace the gilded delights of royal life. His megalomaniac father, frightened by the threat his son poses to the kingdom he’s built, decides to take him out of the picture. He is ultimately saved by the one person who would gain the most from his death – his younger brother.
I’m looking for books that examine brotherly love – especially when bonds are put under strain – and stories that involve tyrannical rulers and/or heirs that reject their duty.
Of course, I realise that these are probably all a bit specific, so I’d gladly accept any ‘well, this sort-of made me think of X…’ that come to your minds!
Thanks all!
