The book “How to talk so little kids will listen” is a very practical guide for understanding how to communicate with children during different developmental stages. I’ve worked in child care for years and have read many different books on the subject, but the way that the author breaks it down from the child’s perspective has been incredibly helpful in real world situations where I have to problem solve on the fly. Understanding where the child’s brain development is at and meeting them there has worked wonders for eliminating the power struggle that comes along with wrangling tiny humans.

I really appreciate how the author gives adults insight into the developmental stages of children and explains that tantrums and conflict are often more about misunderstandings than purposeful behavior issues.

I was wondering if there is a book along the same vein regarding people with Alzheimer’s or dementia?

There are a lot of different caregiving resources and books out there. Mostly based on behavior management strategies and basic health care. But I was hoping to find one that allows the caregiver to experience the mindset of someone with impaired cognitive abilities as I feel it’s a more helpful way to approach creating an enriching environment for a loved one suffering through such difficult brain/sensory perception changes.

    1. I work in an assisted living facility with a lot of Alzheimer’s and dementia, DM me if you have some questions, I might be able to help a little bit. No idea on books, my facility has learning resources through their education application and it’s helpful. Obviously I can’t share that as it’s proprietary to this business but still.
