I became a fan of the Silent Patient (5/5 🌟) last year and I was eager to read more of Alex’s writing. I love how he uses the motifs and themes of Greek tragedies and childhood trauma. He worked them so seamlessly into the story.
Subsequently I read The Maidens (4/5 🌟). I found the story interesting but the plot twist was a little disappointing. I felt like there were too many variables that were not given proper closure towards the end. Although I really enjoyed the link of Mariana and Theo.
Again, I enjoyed the link with the previous books and The Fury. I was very excited when I was able to pre order the third book. I had read it in one sitting. It was an interesting concept that was very different from the previous books. However, the main character was simply not likeable and a bit creepy when he would talk to the reader. I gave it a 3/5 🌟. I am disappointed because I still like Alex’s style of writing, but I simply did not think he was reaching his potential with this third book.
