My favourite (non-series) book! Wow, this book was everything I could love in a story. I loved the romance, the mystery, I loved that we learned all about Kya: what made her who she is, everything she experienced, the cruelty of the town, her whole childhood and family story (yes even though it was sad).

Most of all though, I loved the inclusion and emphasis on nature/ science of this book. I loved how she was literally just a part of the Marsh, she was a piece of the ecosystem, and she was shaped by the Marsh/ the environment she grew up in. She had this amazing understanding and appreciation for nature, and she understood her role in the environment and the acceptance that man is not better or higher than earth. It was amazing to read a novel that had not only a great story (her childhood, the murder mystery, and her entire life experiences), but also an opportunity to learn more about the environment and conservation!

I’m seeking authors/ more books like this one, with a good story and with nature vibes! I would love to find out if there are other conservationist/ biologist authors that write great stories like this, or if anyone has any book recommendations?

You’d enjoy Barbara Kingsolver’s work! Prodigal Summer has a lot of nature in it. Demon Copperhead has the coming-of-age vibes.
