I’m looking for, primarily, a good ensemble of traveling companions with found family vibes & and a legitimate, serious story but with moments of levity, good comedic timing, and charm! I love big RPGs like Baldur’s Gate 3 but am someone who really just prefers absorbing the story, bonding with the characters, and getting immersed in the world. The combat is just a hindrance to me and that, obviously, means I usually prefer books to video games.

I have already taken a look at some of the Forgotten Realms novels (Elminster, Drizzt) and have been somewhat unimpressed by both arcs. I’m not looking for DnD lore, more the excellent vibes of the ensemble cast that Baldur’s Gate 3 gave me. Obviously I’d like the story, setting, and all that jazz to be pretty good as well. There are a ton of fantasy series out there that I’d be interested to start and I’d like to find a few that help me move on from Baldur’s Gate!

The Lunar Chronicles are somewhere between fairytale – scifi – fantasy realm that fits this vibe.
