One of my favorite tropes is a Last Stand. It just does something to me to read about a glorious battle against all odds. I love the melodramatic feel and doom, but our hero’s continue to fight protect what they love. If anyone has any suggestions of books with a great Last Stand I’d appreciate them.

Empires of the Sea (a nonfiction book on the Seige of Malta) might satisfy your desire. I remember it being harrowing and brutal.
For historical fiction, Gates of Fire by Steven Pressfield
For fantasy, Legend by David Gemmell
Alternatively, you might want to look up Alone At Dawn, by Dan Schilling. Sometimes reality exceeds fiction.
Disclaimer, I’ve not actually read Alone At Dawn. Rather, I’m currently listening to Code Over Country by Matthew Cole, which contains a description of the incident that Alone At Dawn is entirely about.
