Hi everyone!
I started using StoryGraph this year, I want to try some of the challenges and am looking for suggestions (in this case, specifically the “Keep it Classic” challenge, I’ll put the prompts further down).
In general, I mostly enjoy fantasy/sci-fi, within that I try to read different subgenres. Preference for queer characters but if the story and characters are good, I’ll take anything. I’ve also read classics, though most of them years ago when I had more time for reading in general. Only thing I’m not a fan of is books that are too much of a downer – I’m okay with drama, character death and tragedy, but if the entire story is basically misery porn, I won’t finish it, life is already a lot, I don’t need to add to that.
Some of the prompts I got an idea for, but I’m still open for suggestions of additional books that could be interesting.
The seven prompts:
1. children’s classic (for that one I’m pretty sure I got a book or two already on my tbr pile)
2. Written before 1900 (I can probably find something, but I’m interested in suggestions instead of picking a random book)
3. Written between 1900-2000 (same here, plus I struggle a bit with the definition of “classic”, since the book might be younger than me based on the prompt)
4. Haven’t seen the movie/series (Dune is already on the tbr pile, for most other books I can think of I’ve seen the movie if there is one)
5. Written by a woman (now, I got Frankenstein on my tbr, but it’s honestly just sad that this is the only one I can think of so I’d be grateful for more suggestions! I don’t really vibe with the type of stories Jane Austen wrote, but I haven’t actually read the books yet so maybe the writing can convince me otherwise)
6. Written in your native language (German in my case. I got a whole pile of German classics, that shouldn’t be a problem. I enjoy more expressionist/strange writing here)
7. Set in another world (here, I’m completely open for suggestions. Otherwise I might just use that as a reason for reading more Tolkien)
Thanks!
